Congo carved chest
Mahogany chest carved and signed by Congolese artist Bernard Mouanga Nkodia.
The four sides and the opening top are carved with all different motifs illustrating daily African life.
Carved from the mass of 54 small squares of wood assembled without glue or nails,
the artist's hand has made itself sober like the reality it depicts.
The piece of furniture measures 91cm long by 46cm high and 49cm deep.
It is in very good condition, waxed medium mahogany color.
The chest is probably a unique piece, it's a youth artwork.
You can still today see monumental sculptures in public places,
which had been commissioned from Mr Mouanga by the Congolese State in the 1990s.
The artist died in 2016
